MULLO DOES IT AGAIN

Fens second team went into their last game of the season looking for some revenge against a JK Celtic team that trashed them 6-0 at the start of the season. Fens only had twelve players on the day and even the manager Darren THE SPECIAL ONE Whelan starting at centre back.Fens started well playing some nice football in the centre of the park and a nice pass by Loic sent Darren Mulligan away and he slotted home to give Fens the lead. It got better for Fens when Mullo sent Deckie through to score form close rang. The lads controlled the game and never really looked in danger with John been a spectator for most of the first half.Fens got the ball out wide with Foxy making a nice run and  passing to Mullo who shot low to give Fens a three nil lead. Fens switched off and Jk got one back just before the break. As the manger took a well deserved break he went to fill up the water bottles Fens got there fourth. Fens pushed on with Sean Farrell trying his best to find the back of the net but when they did it was that man again Darren Mulligan who smashed home the fifth from the edge of the box and nearly burst the net. Fens thought the game was over at that stage and let in two soft goals. The final score 5-3 win for Fens.
A big shout out to Darren Mulligan who has been in great form for the second team banging in eight goals in six games who knows he might be pushing Bucko all the way next season. Fair play to all the players on the second team for the effort they put in since i took over as manger. They turned it around from have no points to 18 points and they finished sixth. You never know next season there could be some silverware if they keep the hard work up.

FENTASTIC !!!!!

The final games of the year ended with both teams playing side by side on home turf and it was a day to remember. fens history was made once again when DARREN MULLIGAN scored his 2nd hatrick of the season the only player ever to do so, also this is the first time both teams finished with a nice victory.
the fens first team where playing whiteleaf a team who loose almost every game by just 1 goal.... the tricky thing about whiteleaf is there a big club who rotate players to try keep them winning. the team fielded was not the normal whiteleaf side but an improved one at that as they scored in the first 2 minutes of the game to get the game rolling. fens hadnt touched the ball before goalkeeper/left full old man gray picked the ball out of his own net it looked as if today was going to be one of those days. An immediate responce was vital and fens showed great determination to get back in the game by dominating possesion and having a number of chances to bring the game level. half time fens went in a goal down but didnt deserve to be even the linesmen were so confused to why??? but after a relaxing few words of encouragement from the manager and the players realising that today is the last match of the season it got them goin again... after the restart fens continued to enjoy more of the ball and it finally paid off when some neat link up play starting from the back led to constant passes all the way up to GALLY who cooley slot the ball home from just inside the box. fens started to relax and didnt push for a second which was a mistake as a wonderfullly chiped attempt on goal just lobbed old man gray and whiteleaf took the lead once again. fens realised the game should have been put to bed and turned up the heat barca style and scored within 2 minutes of the restart which whiteleaf didnt touch the ball untill their keeper picked it out of his net. With the game levelled at 2-2 there was bound to be more drama and a winner. a clumsy challenge by old man gray who took down the stricker inside the box (SUPPOSIBLY) lead to a whiteleaf penalty. their striker was sure to slot home and ruin fens final day but OLD MAN GRAY pulled off an unbelievable save considering he wasnt a keeper and screamed JUSTICE HAS BEEN SERVED. fens got a lift and were on the break again but this time got caught with too many men forward and whiteleaf broke and crossed the ball in only for FERG to absolutley cream the striker for another penalty. johnny wasnt gonna save this one it looked inevitable that fens were to loose as the peno taker was switched.. the peno was the opposite side this time and johhny had guessed different onlt for his toe to just poke it up and over the bar this surely gave fens the lift to go on and win it and they did in style..... Kevin heart slotted home his 3rd of the season to fire fens to victory... unbelievable performance from the team... final score FENSTANTON 3-2 WHITELEAF

MULLO RUNS RIOT AGAINST COLUMBANS

The second team went into this game with the bit between there teeth after drawing their last three games. Fens started strong with Mullo going through on gaol only to see his chip just clip the top of the bar. Some nice play down the left by Macker and a lovely cross saw Bucko finish with his left foot to give Fens the lead. The lads up the tempo and a nice ball from Bucko saw Mullo through on goal but he was brought down and a peno was awarded. After a bit of a delay Mullo stepped up and slotted home the peno to put fens two up. The lads stared to ping the ball around the park and the opistion could not handle them after another lovely ball by Macker Mullo was thought again and he calmly rounded the keeper and slotted home to put Fens three up at the break. Fens picked up where the finished in the first half when Bucks crossed from the right and who got on the end of the cross yet again it was Mullo to complete his hat trick the FIRST BY A FENS PLAYER IN THREE SEASONS
Columbans got a very harsh peno when John Donlon was adjudged to handle in the box. There left full slotted home to pull one back. Fens had some more chances but didnt convert but a very good win for the lads and big shout out to man of the match Darren Mulligan for his super hat trick. The final score a 4-1 Fens win

FENS ROBED BY PENS

After a late pitch inspection in Sportslink Fens were forced to switch there game against OLV. The game was delayed for a few minutes but fair play to all the lads for getting over the south side on short notice. If this had of been at the start of the season we probably gave them the three points. Fens started well with some nice play from the boys in midfield Fens took the lead when Mullo scored after a nice cross from Macker. FEns went in one up. In the second half The BFG gave away a stupid peno for pushing in the box  and OLV scored. Olv had some chances and they thought they took the lead but John shorthall pulled off an amazing save to keep the side level. Lar baker went on a mazy run beat a couple of players and scored a very nice goal to give FEns the lead again. But the hero turned villain when Lar gave a peno in the last minute to which OLV scored again. The game finished 2-2 draw

REVENGE IS SWEET!
Fenstantons first team were in a similar situation this week as there previous game where they went into the game as underdogs due to a previous result against elm mount which saw fens slump due to a 3-0 loss. The attitude in the dressing room pre match was one which smelled of revenge and thats exactly what happened. The match started out high tempo with fens under immense pressure and on the back foot for the first ten minutes. some last minute blocks and defensive headers from defenders midfielders and forwards prevented elm mount from breaking the deadlock. when fens found there feet they knocked the ball around superbly tiring the opposition and it worked as a neat move lead to a LOLLY goal!! elm mount reacted good and fought back and made it 1-1 just ten minutes later. after a stern team talk from karl and some inspirational words from the players targeting the oppositions weakness the fens were raring to go again. As u probably guessed it worked and the fens turned up the heat so much elm mount cracked and the goals started to come. The second goal came from the one and only BUCKATELLI even as a sub he grabs the headlines with his goals there is just no stopping him. Bucko scored either side of a Alan Myler solo effort which he roasted defenders before slotting home which brought his 5th goal in 6 games. Fens refused to concede a consolation goal and were under alot of pressure for the last 10minutes of the game which they saw out. Another emphatic performance from the first team with HARTY picking up the man of the match award for his hard work defensively and offensively. Big thanks to Johnny OLD MAN Gray for standing tall between the sticks. final score FENS 4-1 ELM MOUNT

FENCALONA
Fenstantons first team were away to channel in St.Anns park at 6.30 on a sunny tuesday afternoon. the last time these two clubs met channel came out on top with a 3-2 win. Fens were looking to set the record straight as the previous meeting of the two channel got lucky. The game started well for fens with the first shot on goal within the first 5 mins. alot of cool slick passing by the midfield of HARTY and MATT bringing everyone from defenders to forwards in on the play.shots came from all over the place and the attacks kept coming for fens and it was only a matter of time before they broke the deadlock. 15 passes between the fens players led to PK the right full on the edge of the area who then roasts two defenders and sets up LOLLY for a difficult one on one but with LOLLYs record this year he was never gonna miss and he hit the top right corner. the attacks continued to flow this time with GALLY scoring a volly from outside the area when he wasnt looking at the goal they say a good striker doesnt need to look because the goal never moves and thats exactly it. Bucko replaced GALLY and does what he does best and scores from outside the box due to mishit goalkick the angle was title but no problem for the fens 1st team leading scorer. the game ended 3-0. stats show fens had 70% possesion 15 shots 10 on target 0 yellows 0 reds..

FENSTANTON VS KINSEALY

The Fens second team went into today's game on a good run only loosing one of the last five games. Fens started strong and with in ten minutes they were one up a through ball by the Fens midfield Sean Farrell ran through and chipped the keeper. Fens started to knock the ball around and were all over the opposition and after some nice play they Fens were two up when Darren Mc namee scored from close range.  There were tackles flying in and the ref was doing nothing the game was getting out of control. In the second half Kinsealy picked up the tempo and flew in with even more tackles the ref could not control the game. After Kev sweeny was chopped down the ref let the game go on he then gave a free kick to Kinsealy for nothing which they scored from. Both teams had chances with Robbie Mooney going close. But with fifteen minutes to go the opposition drew level when  they broke down the left and crossed into the box and there forward finished it. Fens kicked on again and right at the end Winnie Dillon came close but the game finished  a 2-2 draw.

AILESBURY VS FENSTANTON

Fens were away in St Anne's park in an evening kick off. The Fens started while two of there players who will not be named were still running around looking for the pitch. Fens started slowly with the opposition playing some nice football but not really testing the Fens keeper. Both teams had chances in the first half but the teams went in all square. In the second half Ailesbury started stronger and the won a suspect free kick on the edge of the box which was whipped in and was put into his net by James Carley. Fens were under pressure and they went two down when the tricky forward got through he buried the keeper from the edge of the box. Fen opened up the opposition a couple of times but could not finish. with five minutes to go Loic got the ball in the centre of the park he made a mazy run and beat a few players and tucked the ball passed the keeper to make it two one. Fens tails were up and Macker had a long range effort saved by the keeper. Ailesbury broke and attacked down the left only for the cross to go straight to the keeper who pumped the ball forward for Macker to chase and he pit pressure on the defence to win a corner. The corner was whipped in and only half cleared the ball bounced around a fell to EL CAPITANO Anto Ayton who placed the ball into the bottom corner to level the match. The game finished 2-2
Fens showed great team spirit to get back into this game and with a few players missing shows that the second team do have strength in depth. The Fens are on a nice little run here is hoping this can continue  to the end of the season and this group of players can kick on next season.

SECOND TEAM  TAKE ON OLV

The Fens second team were away against OLV today. Fens started slowly with OLV hitting the post early on. When Fens got there passing going they close with Macker testing the keeper from long range. Fens had a few chances in the first half but could not convert and went into the break at nil all. Fens came out in the second half and started strong some lovely play from Kev Sweeney he danced through two players and sent a lovely through ball to Sean Farrell and Sean put the chance away with a low placed shot. Fens kicked on again when Loic played the ball to Foxy he crossed and it was taken down by Macker he turned the defender a curled the ball past the keeper. Fens had another chance to extend their lead when Foxy went through but he placed his shot wide of the post. OLV piled on the pressure they got through only for the Fens keeper to make the save. OLV did get the goal after they took a quick free kick they were through ono on one with the Fens keeper and the OLV centre forward placed it in the bottom corner. The game finished with a 2-1 away win for the Fens

FENS UNLUCKY AGAINST KINSEALY

The Fens second team went into this game with an old face playing in a new position John OLD MAN Grey stepped in goal for the second team as Fens were short on keepers. Kinsealy took the lead early on only for Darren Mc Namee to level. Kinsealy took the lead again and Fens showed great spirit to get back into the game again when Darren Mc Namee sent in a corner to Foxy on the edge of the box and his shot flue into the back of the net. Kinsealy went ahead again when they got through on goal a shot from the edge of the box was saved by Johnny only to fall to a kinsealy player to tap in. Fens pilled on the pressure to get level and they thought they had when double a  Anto Ayton scored but it was ruled out for offside. The game Finished with a 3-2 defeat

FENS OUT PLAY COLUMBANS

The Fens Second team went into today's game looking for their first win under new manager Darren Whelan.
Fens started strong with Darren Mc Namee going close on a couple of occasions. Fens finally took the lead when Shane Hannigan  went on a mazy run down the left flank and crossed for Sean Farrell to score a nice neat finish. In the second half the Fens up't the tempo and columnbans couldn't handle them a lovely through ball from Loic sent Darren Mulligan away and he finished with what can only be described as a Messi chip but it was wrongly ruled to be off side. Darren did get his goal when he got onto another through ball from Shane and he placed the ball in the bottom corner, Columnabs did get one back but the Fens were comfortable throughout and the game finished with a 2-1 home win

FENS NEED TO SHAPE UP!!!

Manager Karl mulligan has called for some help from his long friend and fens super striker Lolly to help sort out the fitness of the fenstanton teams. After a recent slump in form which had seen the 1st team take only 1 point from the last 12 and the 2nd team loose the 2nd leg of the loftus cup 5-0 there has been a major shout for a change and quick!! Lolly has the knowledge to make fens into a fit team that can play a full 90 mins without fatigue. With a tough fixture for the 1st team against a strong priorswood side in the ameture cup the fens will welcome back Bucko, Matt, Harty and Myler from injury and suspension to hopefully lift the team spirit. With Harty and Matt been the key to some slick cool passing in the centre of midfield and the engine behind fens success this season they were sadly missed in a game the fens could have won with some composure. the absence of Bucko and Myler has left us short of goals as the clubs main providers this season and their return will surely boost the squad for saturdays game.

GOOD START UNDER NEW MANAGMENT FOR SECOND TEAM!!

On a day which saw the fens 1st team loose for only the fourth time in the league the Fens second team had a positive result under the guidance of their new manager Darren Whelan. Darren took on the roll of player manager and jumped in goal, with Darren the 1st teams goalkeeper last year he brought some well needed experience. Fens were playing away in the first round of the loftus cup against Vianny boys. A team that they had lost five nil to only a few months earlier. Fens started with a strong side with the new manager been able to call upon club captain Paul Kirwan into his side. Fens started strong with Darren McNamee coming close with a long range effort. Vianny were strong on the wings but couldn't get past a strong Fens back line which included the second team captain big Anto Ayton. Fens started to play a bit of ball mainly through the centre of midfield trough new kid dan and a shot from long range that their keeper couldnt hold on to let Rob Ayton pop up and give Fens a one nil lead. Vianny started to pile on the pressure and after a string of corners they drew level, a corner from the left came in it was only half cleared when a shot came in and bounced of a Vianny players head a straight to one of his team mates who slotted home from 6 yards to tie the game. Fens came out strong in the second half with James Carley striking the crossbar with a header within 5 minutes of the restart.. Fens also hit the post and had another couple of good chances but couldn't kill the game off. Vianny also had a couple of chances but some excellent last man challenges and a couple of top class saves gave the game a fair result. A good result for the team with the second leg to come at home Fens still have a chance of progressing into the next round of the cup. A big thank you goes out to Johnny Grey for his help, he assisted Darren in his first game in charge. The result in the end a 1-1 draw

DERBY DAY!!

A local derby which saw fenstanton f.c take on kilmore on the oscar trainer road had exactly what was expected in such a high profile game such as GOALS, 1 ON 1s, YELLOW CARDS and PENALTY CLAIMS. On a sunny but windy sunday morning fens took on kilmore who currently sit above fens in the league but only by 2 points but fens have an advantage of 3 games in hand over kilmore. As usual kilmore went on to the pitch with their usual tactics to intimidate the opposition with threats and some dirty challenges. kilmore were on the front foot for the first 15 minutes with fens playing against some strong wind which didnt help untill some good defending which led to a fens counter attack seen the first goal through ALAN MYLER with a superb finish which the keeper got a hand to but couldn't stop it flying into the top corner. After the goal fens found their feet and begun to control the game through some neat passing between MATT KELLY, LOLLY AND BRIAN BUCKLEY. Within five minutes of the first goal came a second through STEPHEN GALLAGHER who managed to squeeze one past the kilmore goal keeper through an unlikely angle. some bad refereeing saw both teams denied a first half penalty and a few crazy challenges from the kilmore team with the intention of hurting fens players all because of their frustration ended the half with the fens 2-0 up. both teams needed a win to keep the pace on the top teams for a shot at the title. kilmore started the second half good and were back on track after scoring a goal within ten minutes of the restart and brought the game level within five minutes of their first goal. some more dirty challenges and a few yellow cards later kilmore took the lead and it was as if fens were dead and buried but with the never say die attituted fens have they leveled again through once again ALAN MYLER who deserves alot of credit as he played the game with an ankle injury. kilmore went to snacth the win and with one minute left they were 1 on 1 with the fens keeper only to be denied by a fantastic save but the ball fell to a kilmore player with an open goal and out of nowhere the super sub LEO DUFF managed to slide takle the player which allowed for the fens keeper to dive on the ball. while diving on the ball the fens keeper got a kick from a kilmore player and really damaged his shoulder but after some magic water decided to play the remaining minute and with a long kick sent bucko clean through on goal and he was fouled by their last man from behind in the box and the referee said NO!! what a terrible decision could have an effect on the fens title challenge. overall the first half belonged to fens and the second to kilmore some could say it was a fair result FINAL SCORE FENSTANTON 3-3 KILMORE

TRACTA SPANKED!!!!!!!!

A new look fenstanton side took on Tracta blanch in the amateur cup 3rd round on Sunday 26th February in Sportslink. Fens decided to switch things up and go all out attack on an organised Tracta side who have managed to cause a few upsets for fens this season. Fens rocked a stylish 4-3-3 formation that sent them right through to the next round in the cup. A HD performance from all players sealed a place in the next round. An exciting but frustrating 1st half which ended goalless only because of a world class save from the fens keeper BIG JOHN who denied the Tracta captain a goal from the penalty spot. After an encouraging team talk with a hint of the hairdryer treatment from the gaffer fens started the 2nd half in full flight and managed to go a goal to the good due to a pin point pass from AARON DUFFY who set up ALAN MYLER who sent BUCKATELLI clean through on goal, all that was left was a neat finish but BUCKO doesn't do that he decided to make a show of the Tracta keeper by taking him on and walking the ball into the net. Moments later bucko was through again only to be denied a 2nd goal but took his next chance to slot home a superb finish to put fens 2-0 up with a half hour to go. Next up was the silent assassin LOLLY to bang in a tidy finish and put fens one step closer to the prize until a lucky Tracta goal which fell to their striker on the 6yard box gave Tracta a bit of belief only to be shot down a couple of minutes later when LOLLY struck again and sealed a place in the next round. well done to all the fens team including the sideline who showed full support and belief in the team. a big thanks to the manager Karl and his good tactics and the one and only Willie Gray FENS NUMBER 1 SUPPORTER. FINAL SCORE FENSTANTON 4-1 TRACTA BLANCH.

Another win for the Fens! An away win at that!

The Fens ground out a 1-0 win away to Celtic Park in a sunny Beaumont yesterday. Celtic Park are currently in second place in the league and this is their first defeat this season at home. Well done to everybody yesterday. It was great to see so many Fenfans out on the sideline cheering on the boys in blue....and white. Its not often the away side has more support on the line than the home team!

The goal came from our man of the match Paul Lawless a.k.a. Lolly! The ball broke in the box and Lolly pounced knocking it under the advancing keeper to put the Fens 1-0 up early in the first half.

In reality the fens probably deserved to get a second goal on the quality of the play but that goal never came. As a result the Fens had to grind out the win. There were nervous moments when Celtic Park got two free kicks on the edge of our box but the defence held firm and Fens got their just rewards!

"Grinding Out" a win is not something we have done much of lately. Many of our wins have been convincing so it was great to see the team put in a performance which showed lots of heart, determination and a great attitude.

Well done to everybody - the photos are now up in the Photo Gallery section of the webpage.

Great start to 2011

2011 started with a bang last Sunday for Fenstanton. After almost 3 months without any competative football The Fens won 3-1 against Whyteleaf Utd in the Loftus Cup. Despite the pitch cutting up badly the Fens played some lovely football to see off the visitors.

The first goal came early in the game with a beautiful strike from Matt Kelly. The second was scored by Paul Kirwan who worked tirelessly all day up and down the Fenstanon flank! The Fens conceeded a goal in the second half when Paul Kirwan scored his second of the day in the wrong goal!

The game was put beyond the oppposition when Johnny "I dont do tap-ins" Gray sent a bullet into the back of the net from all of 30 yards. In the end it was a welcome relief as the Whyteleaf lads came back strong in the last 15 minutes with Daryl Kinsella saving our bacon a few times before the final whistle!
